Preparation

Before the operation is started, you will be told what exactly is going to happen. Your pet is thoroughly checked, so that a good picture of the general condition of your pet is created. In connection with the anesthesia your pet will always be checked beforehand.

At Vetocambre you can choose from 3 check-up options.

• Check up 1 is a general clinical check of your pet.
• Check up 2 is a general clinical check, urine analysis and blood analysis.
• Check up 3 is a general clinical check, urine analysis, blood analysis, ultrasound and Xray.

In these check-ups, the blood levels of your pet are checked to ensure that the liver and kidneys function normally and can eliminate the anesthetic agent. Protein levels provide information about the binding with the drug. The blood is also checked for signs of hormonal disease, diabetes, infection or inflammation. The echo and Xray are important to look at the size of the organs; heart, lungs and kidneys. Depending on the results, the risks of the intervention are estimated.

Especially in pets with an older age or a previous history this is very important.

The operation

Vetocambre has two operating rooms.

Operation room 1 is mainly used for general operations. There are two operating tables here and small operations and dental procedures are performed here. Operation room 2 is used for specialist surgery and has, beside from general equipment also laparoscopic equipment. Both operating rooms have high quality monitors and materials to make the operations as smooth as possible.

All veterinarians of Vetocambre are highly trained veterinarians, each with their own specialty. The specialist operations are done by Dr. John Smets. Dr. John Smets has years of experience in orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. He has been operating for years for several veterinary clinics in Belgium. Because of his great passion for surgery, he also did the training 'CES Traumatology ostéo-articular and orthopedic animals' in France.

Aftercare

To get a quick and good recovery after an operation, it is important that your pet can wake up in a good way. Your animal is closely monitored by our veterinarians and veterinary assistants. If necessary, we keep your pet warm and pain free. We attach great value to pain control and the most comfortable possible awakening of your animal. If your animal is completely awake again, he can go home.Depending on the procedure, this may still be the same day.

The vet gives you further instructions to take care of your pet and what to look out for.

Control & alarm signals

The first days after an operation your pet is always somewhat vulnerable.

Try to keep your animal quiet, so that any wound can heal faster and nicer. After everything has been discussed, an appointment is made for a check-up consultation.
